A Leading Manufacturer of Gypsum Drywall Completes the Largest Rooftop Solar System in New York State

Continental Building Products Goes Solar

Continental Building Products (Continental) is a North American producer of gypsum drywall and complementary finishing products. They partnered with PowerFlex to complete a 2.4 MW rooftop system at their manufacturing facility in Buchanan, NY. The system is the largest rooftop solar system in New York State and the largest Community Solar project in the Con Edison utility service.

Solar Photovoltaic System Specifications and Environmental Benefits

The Community Solar system will produce an estimated 2,718,000 kWh of electricity annually and will share the economic and environmental benefits with its employees and local community (within the Con Edison territory) who subscribe to receive credits on their electricity bills for a portion of the energy generated. The clean energy produced by the system has the environmental benefits equivalent to saving 147,441 gallons of gasoline or preserving 1,239 acres of forests a year. The system will generate enough clean energy to offset 2,885,635 pounds of CO2 per year.

Significant Financial Returns

Continental utilized funding from Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s NY-Sun Initiative, which helps move New York State closer to having a self-sufficient and sustainable solar industry. PowerFlex’s expertise in optimizing system design, combined with the available federal and New York State Solar incentives yielded Continental a rapid payback period and an attractive, long-term internal rate of return.
