The Challenge

Revitalize Industrial Land After a Natural Disaster

After a devastating flood in 2016 forced Amphenol to relocate its manufacturing facility in Upstate New York, the company faced the challenge of repurposing the affected industrial land. Amphenol needed a solution that would not only restore value to the site but also align with its commitment to sustainability and community service. The company sought to transform the brownfield property into a productive asset, while ensuring that any new development could withstand extreme local flood conditions and support long-term environmental goals.

NYSERDA) Megawatt (MW) Block Program + Brownfield Adder

PowerFlex partnered with Amphenol to design and install a 6.3-megawatt (MW) ground-mounted solar energy system on the repurposed site in Sidney. Engineered to withstand the region’s most extreme flood conditions, the system stands as one of the largest corporate onsite solar projects in New York State. By leveraging the NYSERDA MW Block Program with the Brownfield Adder incentive, Amphenol was able to transform a previously contaminated property into a productive clean energy resource. The solar installation now generates over 7.4 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, helping Amphenol avoid 11.6 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions and 590,000 gallons of gasoline each year, all while delivering significant operational savings and supporting the company’s long-term sustainability goals.

This project ensured that Amphenol’s tax dollars remained in New York State, where they can continue to support high paying jobs and accelerate economic growth. PowerFlex’s expertise in optimizing system design and project financing made going solar a sound capital investment for Amphenol.
