Swiss Re Group Moves Closer to 100% Renewables Goal With PowerFlex Solar Installation
Swiss Re Group is a leading global reinsurance provider, recognized for its commitment to responsible business practices and environmental stewardship. As a founding member of the RE100 initiative, Swiss Re has pledged to source 100% of its electricity from renewable energy, setting ambitious sustainability goals across its global operations. By partnering with PowerFlex Swiss Re continues to advance its mission of reducing carbon emissions and supporting a more sustainable future for the insurance industry and beyond.
Meet Ambitious Renewable Energy Commitments
Swiss Re Group has set a bold target to power its operations entirely with renewable energy. Achieving this goal required innovative solutions that could deliver significant, reliable clean energy at scale. At its U.S. corporate headquarters in Armonk, NY, Swiss Re faced the challenge of developing a solar project large enough to make a meaningful impact on its energy mix while navigating local utility requirements and maximizing available space. The company needed a partner with the expertise to design and implement a system that would not only support its sustainability commitments but also serve as a visible demonstration of its leadership in environmental responsibility.

NY-Sun Initiative
PowerFlex partnered with Swiss Re to design and install a 2.7-megawatt (MW) ground-mounted solar energy system on the company’s Armonk, NY campus. The system, comprised of nearly 8,000 individual solar modules and spanning an area equivalent to four soccer fields, was engineered to maximize energy production and seamlessly integrate with the site’s operations. At the time of installation, it was the largest onsite net-metered solar project in Con Edison's service territory. The system is expected to generate 3.5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually, significantly offsetting the facility’s energy consumption and supporting Swiss Re’s commitment to 100% renewable power. By leveraging the NYSERDA NY-Sun Initiative and a direct purchase transaction, Swiss Re achieved both environmental and financial benefits, further advancing its leadership in corporate sustainability.
“Our mission as a company is to help make the world more resilient. Swiss Re is a founding member of the RE100 initiative, which strives to unite the world's largest companies in a shared commitment to use 100% renewable power. The activation of this landmark project, and our willingness to help de-risk the renewable energy sector by ensuring their projects across the world, underlines our commitment to sustainability.”
