World’s Fifth Largest Pharmaceutical Company Goes Solar in New Jersey
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Goes Solar
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (Sun Pharma) is the world’s fifth largest pharmaceutical company headquarted in India. The company has a global presence, with locations across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America. They provide generic, branded generic and over-the-counter products to wholesalers, distributors and chain drugstores.
Sun Pharma partnered with PowerFlex to complete two rooftop solar systems in New Jersey: Princeton and New Brunswick. The systems have a combined capacity of 505 kW.
Solar Photovoltaic System Specifications
The roof-mounted solar systems are made up of 1,554 individual solar modules and will produce an estimated 601,738 kWh of electricity annually. The clean energy that the system generates will help offset a significant portion of the facilities’ electricity consumption. The environmental benefits of the system are equivalent to saving 44,271 gallons of gasoline or preserving 372 acres of forests per year. Sun Pharma’s use of solar power will also result in the avoidance of approximately 863,147 pounds of CO2 per year.
Significant Financial Returns
Through the New Jersey SREC (Solar Renewable Energy Credits) Program, Sun Pharma receives credits for every MWh of solar energy generated. They can sell those credits to the market for revenue. PowerFlex’s expertise in optimizing system design and solar project financing made going solar a sound capital investment for Sun Pharma.
