Prologis Satisfies Corporate Customers’ Clean Energy Demands Across 130+ Properties

Founded in 1983, Prologis, Inc. is a global leader in logistics real estate that maintains a portfolio of holdings spanning multiple countries and continents. The billion-dollar company lists Amazon, Medline Industries, DHL, FedEx, and The Home Depot among its high-profile corporate clients.

The Challenge

Provide Repeatable Solar Solutions for Logistics Real Estate Giant

Realizing that a solar energy system can be an attractive selling point to tenants who are looking to keep their energy costs down and make good on sustainability commitments, Prologis has fully embraced solar across its real estate holdings. Already one of the top corporate adopters of clean technologies, Prologis has set an ambitious goal to deploy 1 gigawatt worth of solar and energy storage projects.

To continue its trajectory as a leader in corporate sustainability, Prologis would need a partner with vast national experience that could strategically execute solar projects with financial and operational efficiency.

Prologis has trusted PowerFlex with expanding solar energy programmatically at its industrial properties, whose long and flat roofs with unobstructed sun exposure make for optimal installation sites. Tenants “buy” the clean electricity produced by the systems at favorable rates through power purchase agreements with Prologis.

PowerFlex has identified several key markets with the most favorable solar incentives and equipment prices in which to focus installations for Prologis, including California, New York, and New Jersey. By concentrating efforts regionally, PowerFlex and Prologis have developed a dependable and repeatable process that can be replicated again and again in these markets.

Taking a programmatic approach and executing multiple projects concurrently also allows PowerFlex to unlock time and cost efficiencies, like buying equipment in bulk.

To date, PowerFlex has contracted more than 130 rooftop and solar carport projects with Prologis, totaling 120 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity and producing 172 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually — enough to power more than 14,000 homes for a year.

PowerFlex also installed 8 electric vehicle charging stations at a Prologis property in California to accommodate the needs of eco-conscious tenants who drive electric vehicles.
