Lineage Logistics Leverages Solar Nationwide for Cost Savings and Energy Security

Lineage Logistics is the world’s largest temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics solutions provider, with a global network spanning over 400 facilities across 19 countries. Lineage leverages cutting-edge technology to increase distribution efficiency, minimize supply chain waste, and support the communities it serves. As a signatory of The Climate Pledge, Lineage has set an ambitious goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

The Challenge

Meeting High Energy Demands in Cold Storage Operations

As the world’s largest provider of temperature-controlled logistics, Lineage Logistics operates a vast network of cold storage facilities that require a constant and reliable supply of energy to maintain precise temperature conditions. With operations spanning hundreds of sites across multiple continents, the company faces the ongoing challenge of meeting massive energy demands at scale while also controlling costs and minimizing environmental impact. Achieving these goals is especially complex in an industry where uninterrupted power is critical to preserving food quality and safety, and where energy consumption represents a significant portion of operational expenses.

INCENTIVES

Multiple including: Colorado Xcel Solar Rewards Program • Maryland Solar Renewable Energy Certificate (SREC) Program • New Jersey Clean Energy Program (NJCEP)

To help Lineage Logistics address its substantial energy needs, PowerFlex has implemented solar energy across 16 sites across the country totaling 28.7 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity. Combined, the systems generate 27.7 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity each year.

At the Colton Agua Mansa site in California, PowerFlex installed a 3.3-MW rooftop solar array — one of the largest in the company’s global network — alongside 460 kW of linear generators. This integrated system enables the facility to generate 100% of its energy consumption on site, significantly reducing reliance on the grid and lowering Lineage’s operating costs. The solar installation features over 8,400 panels and produces an estimated 5.4 million kWh of electricity annually. By deploying innovative technologies tailored to the unique demands of temperature-controlled environments, PowerFlex supports Lineage’s commitment to operational excellence, energy independence, and progress toward net-zero carbon emissions.

“Lineage is already a model for the industry with our innovative development and deployment of industry-leading technologies. Responsibly creating our own energy is an important sustainability milestone, and I am excited to see how this achievement further inspires our commitment to carbon neutrality by 2040.”
