Leading Beer Distributor Goes Solar on Long Island

Clare Rose Inc. Goes Solar

Clare Rose, one of the top 20 beverage wholesalers in the U.S., partnered with PowerFlex to install a 1,560 kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar system on their state-of-the-art facility in East Yaphank, New York. It now rates as one of the largest rooftop solar projects in New York State.

“The significant reduction in energy costs allows us to invest in better ways to serve our customers,” said Sean Rose, the CEO of Clare Rose.

Solar Photovoltaic System Specifications & Environmental Benefits

The Clare Rose solar system will generate almost 90% of the facility’s total electricity needs. The installation is made up of over 5,000 individual solar modules, and includes advanced features, such as string-level inverters, a commercial weather station and real-time cloud-based data monitoring systems. The environmental benefits of the clean energy pro- duced by the system are equivalent to powering 176 homes or saving 143,788 gallons of gasoline each year. The solar system will also enable Clare Rose to avoid more than 2,498,000 lbs of CO2 a year.

Significant Financial Returns through Solar

The project utilized Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) solar incentive programs, which award upfront re- bates based on system efficiency and expected performance. PowerFlex’s expertise in optimizing system design, combined with the available Federal and New York State Solar Incentives, along with the MACRS depreciation treatment, yielded Clare Rose a rapid payback period and a lucrative rate of return.
