Bozzuto’s Offsets Utility Power Consumption With Clean Solar Energy

Bozzuto’s Inc. is a family-owned leading wholesale distributor of food and household products, serving retailers across the United States since 1945. Renowned for its commitment to quality, reliability, and customer service, Bozzuto’s has built a reputation as a trusted partner in the distribution industry.

The Challenge

Reduce Energy Costs in a High-Volume Distribution Center

As a major wholesale distributor operating a large distribution center in Cheshire, Connecticut, Bozzuto’s faced the challenge of managing substantial energy costs while maintaining efficient, reliable service for its customers nationwide. The company needed a solution that would offset a significant portion of its onsite electricity consumption, reduce operational expenses, and align with its commitment to sustainability — all without disrupting day-to-day operations or requiring major changes to its facility.

PowerFlex partnered with Bozzuto’s to design and install a 1.3-megawatt (MW) roof-mounted solar energy system at the company’s Connecticut distribution center. The fully ballasted system, featuring more than 4,200 high-efficiency modules, was engineered to maximize solar generation without any roof-penetrating attachments. By leveraging both federal and state incentives — including the Connecticut ZREC Program, a 30% federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC), and accelerated depreciation — Bozzuto’s was able to secure significant financial returns and predictable long-term savings. The solar installation now offsets a substantial portion of the facility’s energy use, delivering environmental benefits equivalent to taking 227 cars off the road each year or planting nearly 28,000 trees, while supporting Bozzuto’s commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
