Software Update: Prioritizing EV Chargers in PowerFlex X

Users now have the option of fast-tracking the charging of specific electric vehicles with just a few clicks inside the intuitive PowerFlex X dashboard.

PowerFlex X™ is the all-in-one cleantech platform that monitors, controls, and optimizes your onsite energy assets, including your electric vehicle service equipment (EVSE). Leveraging patented Adaptive Load Management® algorithms, the platform intelligently distributes power to EV chargers on an individual basis, taking into account driver needs, facility demand, and other factors.

In talking with our customers, we learned they'd like the ability to manually prioritize power flow to specific chargers when the situation calls for it. Today we’re excited to share we’ve added this functionality to PowerFlex X. Here’s more about the update and its benefits:

How EVSE Prioritization Works

When an EV charger is prioritized, power is allocated to it before other chargers on your site, up to session or station constraints. Non-priority EV chargers still receive at least their minimum power, ensuring that vehicles plugged into those ports can still get charged. Users also have the ability to prioritize multiple chargers at the same time.

When Should I Prioritize Chargers?

Generally speaking, EVSE prioritization is useful whenever a vehicle (or group of vehicles) needs to achieve a certain level of charge as soon as possible. This most commonly comes into play for customers like commercial or municipal fleets whose operations are time critical. For example, a last-mile delivery fleet manager may want to prioritize charging a truck that has a short-turnaround over others that are scheduled to dwell at the depot for longer.

That said, EVSE prioritization can be useful for any type of customer with a large-scale charging installation that wants the option of fast-tracking specific vehicles when needed.
