Selecting Chargers for Light- and Medium-Duty Commercial Fleets

Find the right mix of AC and DC chargers for your vehicles, your electrical service, and your daily routes.

Few commercial fleets run a single vehicle type. A service or delivery fleet might park multiple vehicles from different OEMS in the same yard, each with its own battery size and maximum charge rate. Add an electrical panel with limited headroom, and charger selection becomes a balancing act between vehicle needs, site power, and budget.

PowerFlex draws on hundreds of charging simulations to help fleets strike that balance. For fleets made up mostly of light-duty vehicles, that typically means 19.2-kW AC chargers paired with 30–60-kW DC chargers. Fleets with more medium-duty vehicles or tight midday turnarounds benefit from adding 60–100-kW DC chargers to the mix. And when the chargers you need add up to more power than your site can deliver, smart load management closes the gap.

Download our e-book, which covers:

  • Maximum AC and DC acceptance rates for popular light- and medium-duty models
  • Matching each charger’s input voltage to your site’s electrical service before you buy
  • Determining when overnight AC charging is enough and when last-mile delivery or multi-route schedules call for higher-powered DC charging
  • Fitting more chargers on a constrained electrical panel with ChargePilot® by PowerFlex, and confirming your hardware supports OCPP 1.6J or later
  • Getting more from limited depot space with dual-port and power-cabinet configurations, and understanding the difference between sequential and simultaneous charging
  • Weighing V2G opportunities against the managed charging and demand response programs available today
