Bloomberg Reduces Energy Costs With Multi-Site Solar Solution From PowerFlex
Bloomberg L.P. is a global leader in financial software, data, and media, recognized for its commitment to innovation and sustainability. With a focus on operational excellence and environmental responsibility, Bloomberg continually seeks out forward-thinking solutions that support its business objectives and reduce its carbon footprint.
Integrating Clean Energy Across Diverse Facilities
As Bloomberg expanded its operations in New Jersey and New York, the company faced the challenge of integrating clean energy solutions across a range of facility types, including high-rise office towers and data centers. Not all sites were suitable for onsite solar installations, requiring creative approaches to maximize renewable energy adoption. Bloomberg needed a partner that could navigate complex regulatory environments and deliver solutions that would provide reliable, cost-effective clean energy while supporting the company’s ambitious sustainability goals.

INCENTIVES
NYSERDA NY Sun Initiative • Solar Renewable Energy Certificate (SREC) Market (NJ) • Transition Renewable Energy Certificate (TREC) Program (NJ) • Remote Net Metering
PowerFlex partnered with Bloomberg to deliver a comprehensive solar solution spanning three sites in New Jersey and New York, totaling 3.5 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity. Where onsite solar was not feasible, such as at Bloomberg Tower in Manhattan, PowerFlex implemented a 1.5-MW offsite system near JFK airport, utilizing remote net metering to deliver clean energy directly to the facility. Additional installations included a 180-kilowatt (kW) system at Bloomberg’s data center in Dayton, New Jersey and a 2.5-MW project at the Skillman, New Jersey campus. By leveraging state and local incentive programs — including the NJ TREC/SREC Market and NYSERDA NY Sun Initiative — PowerFlex maximized the financial returns of each project. This approach enabled Bloomberg to significantly reduce its carbon footprint, avoid millions of pounds of CO₂ emissions annually, and achieve long-term energy savings while advancing its sustainability leadership.
