PowerFlex Adds More CTEP-Compliant Features to EV Charging Kiosk & Mobile App

The California Type Evaluation Program (CTEP) requires that energy output and price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) be clearly displayed on electric vehicle chargers to create pricing transparency for drivers in the Golden State. PowerFlex regularly updates its EV charging hardware and software to ensure these requirements are met. We recently shipped new CTEP-compliant features in our payment kiosk product and mobile app — check them out below.
1. Time of Use Pricing Notifications
In utility service areas that implement time of use (TOU) pricing, electricity rates fluctuate throughout the day. Typically, electricity is more expensive in the evening hours, when power consumption tends to be highest.

If a driver plugs into a PowerFlex charger in an area affected by TOU price swings, they will receive a message notifying them that the rate they pay for energy may change during their charge session. Notifications are pushed to the PowerFlex App as well as to the PowerFlex Kiosk, if installed at the charging site.
2. Kilowatt-hours Expressed With Four Decimal Points
Whether using the PowerFlex App or Kiosk to manage a charge session, drivers can easily view the amount of energy that’s been delivered to their vehicle in kilowatt-hours. To comply with CTEP, we have expanded the readout to four decimal points, giving a more granular window into energy delivery.

3. Power Disruption Disclaimer
Lastly, we’ve added a note on session receipts informing drivers that their charge session may end in the event of power loss or inability to communicate with the charging station. The driver will only be charged for the energy delivered, though some sites may choose to waive the session fee entirely.
