Holiday in the Sun: Earth Day 2016

PowerFlex’s corporate focus on solar energy is grounded in the rewarding financial returns our clients generate from their systems. However, equally important is the positive impact these systems have on the environment. Solar energy is clean, renewable energy, an integral part of ameliorating climate change, and something that we should all think about on Earth Day.Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970 and “brought 20 million Americans out into the spring sunshine for peaceful demonstrations in favor of environmental reform.” Today, over 192 countries observe Earth Day and have celebrations promoting environmental policy change. This year’s Earth Day is particularly significant because the United States, China, and 120 more countries are scheduled to sign the marquis Paris Agreement, an ambitious accord that aims to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.The Paris Agreement aims to strengthen the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Their goals are outlined below:

(a) Holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2 °C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels, recognizing that this would significantly reduce the risks and impacts of climate change;

(b) Increasing the ability to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change and foster climate resilience and low greenhouse gas emissions development, in a manner that does not threaten food production;

(c) Making finance flows consistent with a pathway towards low greenhouse gas emissions and climate-resilient development.

Overall, the Agreement creates international goals for climate change that allow individual countries to decide on the appropriate course of implementation.One of the ways the United States is reaching these targets is through increased renewable energy production. Solar energy proliferation is extremely important for the United States, and the commercial and industrial (C&I) marketplace is prime for development. PowerFlex, focusing exclusively on C&I solar development, was founded in 2006, and has installed systems throughout the country. Since its inception, PowerFlex systems have produced a combined 48.2 GWh of solar energy. Not only has this helped our clients save on their electricity costs and improve their bottom lines, but has helped avoid 41,210,880,000 pounds of carbon dioxide, the primary GHG emitted through human behavior. We’ve also saved the equivalent of over 32 million trees from the past 10 years of clean energy production.Today is the perfect day to consider going solar with PowerFlex. We offer corporate clients a turnkey service that makes it easy for them to profit from going solar, and, in turn, make “going green” simple – something that is imperative to the survival of our planet.
