Chanel Offsets Nearly 90% of Annual Energy Usage With Rooftop & Carport Solar
Chanel is a global luxury brand renowned for its high fashion, fragrances, and beauty products. With a legacy of creativity and innovation dating back to 1910, Chanel has built an international reputation for excellence and influence. Today, the company is also recognized for its commitment to environmental responsibility, setting ambitious goals to transition to 100% renewable electricity by the end of 2025 through its Chanel 1.5° climate initiative.
Support Ambitious Renewable Energy Goals
Achieving the Chanel 1.5° goal required the company to identify and implement clean energy solutions that could meaningfully offset its substantial annual energy usage — without compromising the quality or integrity of its operations. During a major renovation of its Piscataway, New Jersey facility, Chanel faced the challenge of integrating solar technology in a way that would maximize environmental impact, support its global sustainability commitments, and serve as a model for responsible luxury.

NJ Solar Renewable Energy Certificate (SREC) Program
PowerFlex partnered with Chanel to deliver a tailored solar solution at the company’s Piscataway, New Jersey facility, integrating both rooftop and carport solar energy systems. The combined 2.7-megawatt (MW) installation was designed to maximize onsite renewable energy generation, offsetting 56% of Chanel’s estimated annual energy usage with the rooftop system and an additional 33% through the solar carport. By leveraging the New Jersey SREC program and a direct purchase model, Chanel was able to capture significant energy-cost savings while avoiding 5 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. The clean energy produced by the systems carry the environmental benefits equivalent to saving more than 250,000 gallons of gasoline or preserving 2,075 acres of forests a year. This innovative approach not only supports Chanel’s ambitious climate goals but also demonstrates how sustainability and luxury can go hand in hand.
