EV Service Technician

Location: Los Altos, CA

Scope of Job:

Supports the seamless installation and maintenance of EV infrastructure projects. The main responsibilities include installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and upgrades at various EV sites.

Responsibilities:

95% – Field Service Duties

  • Perform installation of EV charging units and smart chips in the field
  • Commission Load Management systems and validate performance
  • Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, commissioning, and updates on EV charging units of various makes and models
  • Perform component level diagnostics, utilizing laptop, phase meters, and other tools, to diagnose failed units and determine required repairs.
  • Turn troubleshooting efforts into customer reports and lessons learned
  • Manage warranty issues
  • Conduct training for other technician and/or subcontractors

5%- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience as a field technician on power electrical equipment or related experience.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills
  • Hands on experience with hardware, tools, instruments and methodological analysis

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Strong computer skills – MS Office product especially Excel and Word
  • Strong electrical/electronic background relevant to EV equipment
  • Experienced in measuring voltage, current, frequency, insolation, phase rotation.
  • Ability to gather data accurately and compile and prepare professional reports on field activities

Working Conditions:

  • Regular local travel with 50% or more remote travel possible.

Project Engineer – Microgrids

Location: San Diego, CA or Los Altos, CA

Scope of Job: The Project Engineer – Microgrids is an exciting opportunity for an electrical engineer to catalyze a lifelong career in renewable energy, and a fundamental contributor to engineering and proliferation of distributed generation systems across North America. The Project Engineer – Microgrids will support the Sr Technical Manager to provide electrical design, analysis, planning, technical support, and supervision related to the business and development of commercial solar (PV), Storage, & microgrid projects.  This position works at the company headquarters and travels to job sites as needed.  The Project Engineer – Microgrids will also support health and safety, project design/engineering & review, project tracking and project management support, product applications review, vendor management and procurement, construction management, systems commissioning, general project administration, development of internal business systems, and O&M support.

Responsibilities:

  • 20% Support and manage tasks related to project engineering, project management, interconnection, permitting, and management of subcontractors, consultants, and vendors.
  • 10% Work with the Special Projects team and Engineering stakeholders, as well as external parties, in project development of turnkey renewable energy solutions, utilizing various types of generation technologies (PV, BESS, CHP, flywheel, etc.) and for various applications (NEM, demand management, resiliency, CCA, IPP, etc.).
  • 10% Product management, applications review, design control, and vendor management efforts related to renewable distributed energy resources (DER’s), intelligent electrical devices (IED’s), system controls (energy management systems (EMS), programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), microgrid controllers, etc.), and integrated telemetry systems.
  • 10% Drafting CAD drawings for various uses, such as interconnection applications, conceptual project design, construction wiring diagrams, etc.
  • 10% Draft, evaluate, and manage implementation strategy of newly integrated systems, ensuring conformance to design requirements and contract documents as well as national and local Codes (such as National Electric Code).
  • 5% Development and optimization of internal business systems
  • 5% Systems and project commissioning; manage site acceptance testing and quality assurance efforts
  • 5% Assist the Sr. Technical Manager in tracking project schedules and confirming the availability of material and resources to maintain the schedule.
  • 5% Manage technical coordination with utilities for reliable and safe interconnection.
  • 5% Coordinate with the Operations & Maintenance team at project commissioning and close-out, and support of system repair during system operations as necessary.
  • 5% Support safe work practices including OSHA standards, company safety programs, and policies relative to the installation of these systems.  Support enforcement of safety standards established by the client and the company to manage risk and achieve safety and health goals of no incidents and no lost time due to injury and no property damage.
  • 5% Represents the company as a job site representative to the project stakeholders including client, utility, authorities having jurisdiction, and community members.  Interact with integrity, always displaying a professional appearance and attitude.
  • 5% Other duties, as assigned.

Supervision of Others: No supervision of other Company personnel at this time.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience – Typically requires:

  • College degree:  BS Electrical Engineering or related/equivalent technical degree
  • Building trades experience preferred
  • 1-3 years direct experience with design and implementation of C&I and/or grid-scale power generation systems

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering and power distribution theory
  • Detail and process oriented
  • Load flow and power system analysis exposure preferred (ETAP, CYME, MATLAB, SKM, etc.)
  • Electric power distribution, generation, substation automation and power system integration
  • Understanding of modern distributed energy resources, hierarchical control, and energy management systems
  • Strong AutoCAD and computer software skills
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems preferred
  • PE (CA), EIT/FE, LEED AP, CEM and/or other technical certifications preferred
  • Familiarity with project management
  • Familiarity with microgrids and types control systems
  • NABCEP certification desired or ability and willingness to achieve certification
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.  Weather conditions and terrain will vary depending on geographical location of project site.   Frequent travel to project sites required.

Working Conditions: 90% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs, AutoCAD, analytical tools, pdf editors, etc.), phones, and general office equipment. 10% of time is spent outside of the office visiting vendors’ and/or internal customers’ sites in additional to attending various conferences and meetings.

Hardware-Software Integration Test Engineer Consultant

Location: Los Altos, CA

Scope of Job: The Hardware-Software Integration Test Engineer role will support the organization by procuring, building, testing, and shipping the latest equipment in electric vehicle charging technology. They will have hands-on working on integrating hardware and software products while improving the functionality and design of the products themselves.

95% – Primary job duties:

  • Build, test, and ship electric vehicle charging stations, site controllers, analytics boxes, and peripherals

Project Manager

Location: Los Altos, CA and surrounding areas

** We are looking for 2 Project Managers and 1 Senior Project Manager to start immediately.

You must have project management experience to be successful in this role.

SCOPE:

The Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all aspects of multiple solar energy projects through completion at any given time. The responsibilities include coordination with the utilities and townships, permitting, resource management, incentive management, contractor negotiation, and construction management. The Project Manager interacts with clients throughout the entire project, from contract signature until transition to our O&M team.

  • Field Operations Management
  • Manage jobsite equipment deliveries
  • Provide support to our clients, subcontractors, and team members
  • Execute the Turn-Key Installation from start to finish while staying on schedule

Product Owner

PowerFlex is looking for an experienced and technical Product Owner who is passionate about renewable energy, electric vehicles, beautiful and elegant technology, scalability, security, and supportability. We’re looking for a highly motivated individual with a genuine interest in the renewable energy sector and a passion to deliver cutting-edge products for our EV charging customers. The Technical Product Owner should be a jack-of-all-trades and a master of some, someone that is comfortable with requirement gathering, assisting in architecting/designing, and facilitating an agile, lean, and high functioning software team. This position encompasses all the aspects of a traditional PO role as well as some of the traditional aspects of a scrum master or an agile coach.

Responsibilities:

  • 25% Vision and Roadmap: Clearly understand the vision for the product and assisting in defining that vision if it is not clear to ensure that the right product is built. Ensure the product vision is clearly communicated to the delivery team and understood by the team. Understand the various users of the product, including other systems that may consume the product, in order to ensure that they are building a product that provides value to the users. Maintain the product roadmap, with upcoming short-term and long-term goals, and communicate the roadmap to the delivery team and stakeholders.
  • 25% Software Team Facilitation: Set expectations for the software team. Negotiate with stakeholders and delivery teams to prioritize work in the backlog and help maximize the value the team delivers. Define what business value means to the customer and use this definition to assess each feature/story based on business value. Maintain a well-refined and prioritized backlog of sufficient length to support the team’s velocity.
  • 25% User Stories and User Acceptance: Ensure that the team understands the context of the stories in the backlog and that the team has adequate information to deliver the stories. Conduct the necessary research and analysis to fully understand the client’s needs and requirements. Work with the delivery team to write and refine user stories. Demonstrate the latest iterations to customers (pre-release), gather feedback and confirm that the product being delivered meets the customer’s needs.
  • 10% Customer Relationship Management: This role will have a focus on integrating PowerFlex’s many products with technology stacks of business partners. Candidate should expect to spend time interacting with customers on a regular basis.

Senior Director, Human Resources

Location: New York City

The Senior Director, Human Resources will lead HR for the Company, in coordination with EDF Renewables HR team. The individual will work closely with the Executive team on strategy, development, and organizational planning. Site Supervisor (Consultant)

Position Expectations: The Site Superintendent provides on-site coordination for all phases of solar, solar+storage, and EV charging station construction projects, including managing and coordinating subcontractors, material, and equipment, ensuring that specifications are being strictly followed, and work is proceeding on schedule and within budget. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

95%     Project coordination, supervision, and management, including the following:

  • Schedule and supervise all on-site and (as assigned) off-site subcontractors, consultants, and vendors, as well as ensure their completion of work within time allowed; and assure that all project work by each subcontractor and all materials supplied by any vendor fully complies with project plans, the subcontractor’s contracted scope of work or applicable specifications, applicable laws and permits, utility requirements, and applicable codes, including the National Electric Code.

Sr. Project Manager, Microgrids

Location:  San Diego, CA 

Scope of JobThe Microgrids Project Manager supports the company’s mission of developing, financing, constructing, and operating microgrid solar and storage projects.  The Project Manager is responsible for managing commercial microgrid opportunities from project inception to construction which are typically between 500 kW and 10 MW in size.  The Project Manager will be a consummate team player and be a self-starting, creative, and motivated individual who has a proven history of successfully developing microgrid energy projects.  This individual would thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment. 

Responsibilities 

  • 30% – Coordinate team (which may consist of business developers, EPC project management, engineering, and third-party consultants) through site due-diligence and permitting activities; consult with team members to ensure: (1) compliance with and continuity between Project Agreements (PPAs, Options, Leases, Interconnection Agreements) which includes the monitoring of Option-to-Lease payments, contract deadlines, and permitting deadlines; and (2) that the project, as described in any permit plans remains technically and economically feasible. 
  • 20% – Assess early development opportunities from the Company’s origination team and effectively communicate project & product plans, challenges, and necessary outcomes. Maintain regional subcontractor and vendor relations and pricing matrix. Act as the project lead once the origination team has contracted with the customer.
  • 15% – Maintain accurate and up-to-date project management reporting (i.e., project development package, development schedules, construction schedules & budgets) and all diligence matters to facilitate project approvals and financing requirements.
  • 15% – Serve as the internal lead subject matter expert on microgrid technology, applicable laws, guidelines, and policy affecting preconstruction permitting including: land use and zoning approval, environmental approvals, and other approvals. 
  • 5% – Prepare summary reports including permitting memos and milestone calendars for executive, finance, and EPC team review.
  • 5% – Manage consultant solicitations for project specific requirements (e.g., wetlands, civil, zoning, etc.) and manage consultant contracts throughout project development.

Solar O&M Technician

The Solar O&M Technician is required to troubleshoot and resolve solar PV and battery storage system issues, including emergency repairs/corrective maintenance, design change requirements, and equipment modifications/upgrades. Position will also be responsible for Preventative Maintenance activities to support system performance of O&M portfolio, as well as, QA/QC inspections, system commissioning and pre-con site assessments.

Location: New York, California (San Diego; Los Altos), Remote

Scope of Job:

We are seeking an experienced integration developer lead who has the expertise in integration of cloud and on-prem systems for ERPs, Salesforce, HCM, Procore, Slack, GSuite, Teams/O365 as well as other enterprise systems. You will work with other technical leads, internal teams, and vendor experts to enable integration between the company’s technologies and solutions. You will be integral in helping to set the direction, establish and enforce standards, implementing solutions, staying updated on current trends, developing best practices and helping to guide new initiatives. This role offers an excellent opportunity to make a real impact and help shape our digital solutions.

In this position, you’ll assess project requirements for technical designs, develop integration code, configuration, and testing, to support integration with enterprise systems/applications using an iterative and agile development methodology. You’ll need to make build or buy recommendations for with middleware technologies and connectors like Zapier, Tray.io Informatica, WS02, Jitterbit, MuleSoft, Dell Boomi.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and integrate applications, data sources, and systems by leveraging previous experience, utilizing best practices and industry standards
  • Testing and support of production-ready web prototypes, for both requirements and production development iterations
  • Solicit input from front-office teams and prioritize projects based on business objectives
  • Continually research and adopt new integration techniques
  • Write and review technical solution designs
  • Project estimation of web prototyping, and solution development
  • Work closely with the developer manager and back-end teams to architect and integrate with other systems of records

Qualifications:

Project Development Engineer

Position Expectations: The Project Development Engineer will be responsible for assisting PowerFlex’s Business Development team through the pre-contract engineering process. This individual will be involved in the overall vetting and preparing of projects for a successful execution by the Project Engineering and Project Management team. Traveling on average once a week should be expected. This individual must exhibit excellent time management and organizational skills, as well as demonstrate the ability to effectively collaborate across departments and externally.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate and set expectations with internal teams regarding Technical Due Diligence during the Project Development phase
  • Help ensure project viability by communicating PV system technology requirements to Business Development team and Clients
  • Keep up to date on interconnection process and incentive structure as it relates to tariffs, state and utilities
  • Request, review, and approve proposals from external vendors (electrical engineer, vendor, structural engineer, storage analysis etc.). Ensure development costs are within approved budget.
  • Submit interconnection applications and communicate with utilities throughout review and approval process
  • Communicate cost information regarding utility upgrades and project-related costs to Estimating team
  • Provide engineering input during Pre-Contract permitting activities, and work with Civil Engineering firms to submit application packages to AHJs
  • Coordinate structural feasibility studies and work with vendors to estimate costs associated with structural limitations
  • Successfully build rapport with external utility personnel by learning and understanding their changing requirements, attending their events, and understanding the changing nature of the utility industry
  • Present as a subject-matter expert on system requirements by identifying challenges, communicating them to the project team and providing creative solutions
  • Perform site assessments alongside engineering partners that requires driving and possibly using ladders
  • Work with wider engineering team to stay updated on best project practices to ensure a smooth project execution upon handoff to project construction team

PowerFlex is now accepting applications for a full-time summer intern to work alongside the Project Management team. The qualified candidate should be bright and hard-working, with a strong interest in construction management and renewable energy.  The intern will be exposed to all aspects of commercial solar and storage projects including marketing and business development, project financing, project engineering, with a focus on solar project construction management and administration.

This is a paid position with potential for full-time employment based on evaluation of work performance. While this position is located in our Manhattan, New York office, the eligible candidate will be working remotely on an interim basis.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with Solar Project Managers, Project Coordinators and Project Engineers on multiple aspects of a solar project
  • Arrange material deliveries, equipment Purchase Orders, subcontractor management, and budget management

Project Associate Intern

Location: Los Altos, CA, San Diego, CA

Scope of Job

The Project Associate Intern will support the Implementation team on the deployment of EV charging infrastructure projects.  The primary goal is to ensure specific projects are implemented efficiently, successfully and within the agreed terms of the project. This requires constant oversight of the project to ensure activities are being performed, collecting data to analyze performance and reporting on progress. If the project is not being implemented to satisfaction, the associate should identify problems and correct as needed.

  • Assist with daily operational activities, including; case creation, work order generation, scheduling, material/equipment purchasing, RMA processing, etc.
  • Assist with invoicing and billing as necessary.
  • Assist with asset management activities, including PPA billing, community solar management
  • Assist with sales prospecting, proposal generation, service estimates and contract management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Science, Operations, or Project Management
