PowerFlex and the City of Burlingame Complete a State-of the-Art Parking Garage with EV Charging Stations

The 5-level parking garage provides 368 parking spaces and 24 electric vehicle charging stations

SAN FRANSISCO (Oct. 14, 2021)PowerFlex – an EDF Renewables Company and the City of Burlingame held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to celebrate the completion of a new parking garage. The state-of-the-art 5-level parking garage accommodates a total of 368 parking spaces, including 24 Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. This construction is a part of the Village at Burlingame Project, which also encompasses a public park and a new, 5-story affordable workforce and senior housing development that provides 132 units.

The City of Burlingame partnered with Pacific West Builders for the construction of the garage and PowerFlex for the EV charging installation. The garage will help meet the local parking needs of the downtown area, while supporting the City’s EV Action Plan, which includes increasing public charging infrastructure to 100 charging ports by 2030. The City has also partnered with PowerFlex for an upcoming installation of ten Level 2 and five DC Fast Chargers at the Burlingame Library, making further progress towards its electrification goals.

The California Energy Commission (CEC) estimates that the state will require 1.2 million public and shared chargers by 2030 to meet the needs of the expected 7.5 million EVs that will be operating in California by that time. By prioritizing EV charging stations at this new parking garage, the City of Burlingame demonstrates its commitment to meeting the fueling demands of EV users in the state and its dedication to environmental sustainability. The City is already purchasing 100% of the electricity for its municipal accounts from renewable sources and is encouraging its residents and businesses to follow suit.

“The garage’s new EV charging stations doubled the number of public EV stations in our City and will make charging accessible to nearby multifamily residents, visitors, and employees in downtown Burlingame,” said Sigalle Michael, Sustainability Coordinator, the City of Burlingame.

“Burlingame is adapting quickly to meet the needs of local EV drivers and support the transition to zero-emissions vehicles,” said George Lee, Chief Product Officer, PowerFlex. “We’re proud to partner with the City of Burlingame as they progress towards building a more sustainable city.”
